A Day in the life of a Southport Mortgage Broker

Have you ever wanted to know what a day in the life of a Southport Mortgage Broker is like? We'll make that question rhetorical...We're excited to introduce our newest team member, Danny Hall, our Southport mortgage broker, who has recently moved to Southport from Wigan.

We thought we would throw Danny into the deep end on his first day and let him introduce himself!

Welcome to the team Danny! Tell Us a Little Bit About Yourself...

Hi everyone, I’m Danny and I’ve recently moved into the area from Wigan.  I’ve worked as a Broker close to Wigan and I’m now looking forward to supporting you all to secure that new property in Southport and the surrounding areas.  When I’m not at work I like to keep fit by going for a run and I’m in training for an upcoming Marathon. I also like to relax at the cinema or head to a local pub/ restaurant.  I look forward to speaking with you about your Mortgage and Protection needs.

What advice would you give to first-time buyers looking for a mortgage?

To all you first-time buyers out there, I would encourage you to reach out and make an appointment with me! I can help to answer any questions you may have about the process and if I don’t know the answer I can find out for you.

I would advise you to save as large a deposit as you can afford to in order to get access to the better interest rated products on the market. Once you have narrowed your search down to a particular property, have a look at the likely expenses associated with that property to help determine an affordable loan amount, after any financial commitments you might have.

What Are Your Top Tips for Preparing for a Mortgage in the Current Climate?

My top tips to be mortgage ready in the current climate are to keep on top of your credit agreements and avoid any missed payments/defaults (you will increase your chances of getting the better interest rated products this way as lenders will have more confidence in your ability to manage debt).

Make a note of your income and expenditure to speed things up.  The market is moving so quickly at the moment, that having the relevant information to hand will speed up the process and increase your chances of getting the deal you want locked in place.  Don’t take on too much debt and try to avoid doing this close to applying for a mortgage.  Having credit is not a bad thing but it needs to be a reasonable amount and managed effectively.

Finally, I would also say it is important to contact a broker to compare the market for you. It can be tempting to go directly to your bank, however, in doing so, you may be missing out on a better deal elsewhere.

What Does Your Typical Day Look Like?

A typical day for me is working with the team at Ball & Percival to support clients to achieve their goals of financing the purchase of a new home (both buy-to-let and residential) or to re-mortgage their current one for the best possible deal.  It’s also my job to advise on protection products and this takes place either face to face or over the phone.

I am always open to speaking to new clients and for any enquiries you may have please do not hesitate to get in touch.
